I am using imutils package for streaming video from webcam for achieving higher fps. I want to input these frames to a CNN inception model which I have trained through transfer learning. Currently I am doing the following :.

I read each frame from queue, save it as ' pic. This works, but it is very slow because of the writing and reading.

What would be an efficient way to do this or how to directly input video streams into tensorflow. VideoCapture 0 blocks the main thread until a frame is read from the camera. If there is some other code that can do the same, is compatible with tensorflow and can let me add a text on the picture to show the prediction frame by frame, that would also be perfect.

It looks like you pip installed imutils using python2's pip and so that's why python3 can't import it. You might try: sudo pip3 install imutils. The imutils library is a non-conda package. You need to install via pip.

I've never had this problem previously. Hey ANTZ -- my guess is that you may have accidentally installed and uninstalled perhaps multiple times over the imutils library from your system Python install and your Python virtual environment.

Here's the fool-proof method:. How to fix that? HongChow I've answered the question many times in the thread. You'll need to be more specific regarding the exact error you are getting, operating system, and Python environment. I had installed imutils in Python2. Firstly, I didn't notice that I was running python3 and then python2 when using sudo.

Secondly, I had an alias entry in my.Libraries Tutorials. Doing this allows us to spider the webpages substantially faster. The main thread of our Python script is completely blocked i. This class will help us obtain quantitative evidence that threading does indeed increase FPS. This is done strictly for initialization purposes so that we have an initial frame stored in the class.

Lines handle parsing our command line arguments.

Lines 19 and 20 grab a pointer to our video stream and then start the FPS counter. This behavior makes sense if you think about it — the cv2. That said, this function is necessary for keyboard interaction and to display the frame to our screen especially once we get to the Raspberry Pi threading lessons. To demonstrate how the cv2. Using no threadingwe reach Overall, I recommend using the cv2. A great example of such a program would be developing a home surveillance motion detector that sends you a txt message containing a photo of the person who just walked in the front door of your home.

Realistically, you do not need the cv2. By removing it, you can increase the performance of your motion detector and allow it to process more frames faster. In nearly all situations, using threaded access to your webcam can substantially improve your video processing pipeline.

Increasing webcam FPS with Python and OpenCV

All too often I see developers, students, and researchers wasting their time, studying the wrong things, and generally struggling to get started with Computer Vision, Deep Learning, and OpenCV.

I created this website to show you what I believe is the best possible way to get your start. Thank you! Great tuto! Looks like if you have ANY processing you need to have it out of that fetching image thread, and it runs pretty fast. What do you think? Very true — and at that point it depends on your physical camera. If your loop is faster than the physical frame rate of the camera, then the increase in FPS is not as realistic. This is further evidenced when we use the cv2.

In either case though, threading should be used since it can increase FPS. This is 2 years later and I am using opencv 3. Seems to me that it is already using threading, at lest all cores are in use.

So the framerate is limited by a camera framerate b calculation time. If calculation time is much smaller than camera-framerate, you are only limited by a.

In the 2nd case, you decouple the two. You even lose some time, because you are obviously busy needlessly re-calculating at the time that the next frame comes in.
